Trudi K @AtWitzEnd Mar 27 I love this fun farce with a clever, science based concept. I read that the writer was inspired by real-life research of voles monogamy. The film explores and subverts romantic tropes in a clever comedy of errors. The talented cast work well together, with great physical comedy. I appreciate the gentle humor in the characters interactions, especially the way Allen and Lisa adapt their romance to accommodate Lisa’s germophobia. Their performances were great, especially Chaunté Wayans who didn't hesitate in her performance and was the most realistic and convincing. The premise was fun, although quite contrived and you had to suspend disbelief if you have even a basic understanding of lab safety and research standards. It felt like it was going for a zany hijinks kind of humor similar to the movie Mannequin or the Police Academy movies, but I think the comedic timing was lost in the loose pacing. It felt very underedited which underserved the performers. And a few of the low budget sets distracted a bit from any sense of realism. This alone is suspicious, as are the identically high ratings the movie receives on the website IMDB. I wonder whether the people who made this movie solicited and received reviews from their friends and families. There are far better comedies that do not receive such over-the-top reviews: all raves and not a hint of criticism. Yes, the movie is occasionally funny, but rarely in a laugh-out-loud way. It is a bit repetitive, to the point of being slightly boring. I did like some, but not all, of the characters. I especially liked the actors Kiran Deol and Iqbal Theba.
