In this satirical take on Westerns, crafty railroad worker Bart (Cleavon Little) becomes the first black sheriff of Rock Ridge, a frontier town about to be destroyed in order to make way for a new railroad. Initially, the people of Rock Ridge harbor a racial bias toward their new leader. However, they warm to him after realizing that Bart and his perpetually drunk gunfighter friend (Gene Wilder) are the only defense against a wave of thugs sent to rid the town of its population.

Most of the gags in Blazing Saddles never were very funny, and probably Brooks knows that and thinks that what's funny about those rotten old jokes is how unfunny they are.

Most of the shorter sequences work nicely. The superb comedienne Madeline Kahn has a role as Lili Von Shtuppe that la a wonderful excuse for her to do a Marlene Dietrich imitation.

A hilarious movie with many quotes lines but most importantly a great message about how to treat peoples. A classic that I first watched almost 40 years ago. Was great seeing it for the first time on the big screen and my teenage son saw it for the first time.

Hilarious!! Very eclectic and irreverent but still hilarious all these years!! People seem to forget that Richard Pryor co-authored the script, so I think its fair to blame the racial humor on him!! In any case, this is Mel Brooks, Cleavon Little, Madeline Kahn and Gene Wilder at their best!!! Great cast, great script, well done in every way!!
