Brought together by the unexpected inheritance of an abandoned house in Normandy, four cousins, previously strangers, discover a mysterious shared past. Two centuries earlier, Adèle Munier, their ancestor and owner of the house, left her rural home for Paris in search of her mother's identity, at the heart of the city's modernization and the rise of Impressionism. As her descendants follow in her footsteps, they unravel Adèle's past to forge their own future. Two intertwined periods collide, as the family members' contemporary perspectives are pitted against the fascinating reality of 19th-century Paris.

It’s the kind of French movie for which you’ll need a sweet tooth, but it’s tasty. Go to Full Review

It’s a pretty, slightly kitsch confection, but this millefeuille of family secrets and art history is rather delightful. Go to Full Review

The Adèle timeline, a sepia-tinged coming-of-age tale with a backdrop of characters to put Madame Tussauds to shame, is the film’s heartbeat. It’s a great excuse to revisit this gilded age in French history. Go to Full Review

This is a witty and also knowingly pointed look at how history still ripples within everyday life today, flowing through generations whether or not we fully understand the connections we feel. Go to Full Review

The end result is a light-hearted comedic exploration of the how the past is never as quaint or romantic or as fixed as we might think, so don’t get stuck in it. Go to Full Review

The filme propose a constant interplay between the dreamlike, the past, and the present, where spaces merge. Although some aspects change over time, souls seem to connect through it, and in a way, history repeats itself. (full review in spanish) Go to Full Review

Howie B @Howie10 Mar 29 A delightful film which never ceased to entertain. Whether it is true or a complete work of fiction matters not. The capturing of the mid to late 1800’s through to the early 1900’s interwoven with a modern day extended family theme works perfectly. Brilliant cast, outstanding script and wonderful direction of a production which had been a highlight of the Alliance Film Festival 2026. The spontaneous audience applause (such a rarity in cinema these days) said it all. See more Ruan R @RuanRuan Feb 5 The film feels like an insult to the artist Claude Monet. It distorts historical facts and invents a storyline in which the famous French painter is portrayed as having an abandoned daughter. This is not a film I would recommend to those who value historical accuracy and integrity. See more Runa R @runa.r Jan 22 It's always good to feel the magic of cinema. Suzanne Lindon is excellent in the role. The music is wonderful. See more Valentin A @Documentarian Jan 8 One of the most inciting opening for a french film, Macaigne as always vulnerable and touching, the music from Pomme poignant; maybe the winter weather here in Romania make me to enjoy always a film by Klapish. See more Alexander B @Alexander_Bell Dec 8 Finally a film whose director thought of little else but the script. Funny, deep, and truly moving at times, without employing cheap tropes to keep you interested. The film stands tall on its own two feet, keeping you glued to the screen with its charming little side stories and a focused, driven plot. If nothing else, this film masterfully makes the case for the perpetual existence of Art, and how it is inextricably linked to a person's experience of life, freedom, and the pain and joy that come along with it.
