Christian K @ckacar Jan 22 Bing Crosby has a nice singing voice, nobody has mentioned this before. This is a pretty dry watch, it has a few nice moments with old priest, and a sweet ending. See more Simon C @dasGrob Dec 28 Seven oscars for this drawn out attempt at a morality story is six too many. And proves that the fix was in. Oh sure, Bing delivers as you hope he will. But right from the start, the characters are smiling at one another as if this is a dress rehearsal for the film and are just happy to be in Hollywood in 1944 rather than say, Normandy. The rebellious kids just fall in line, whilst the one holdout gets slapped around for extended gratuitous comedic effect. The feature song is utterly pathetic both lyrically and musically; even more so when sung not by Bing, but by the opera star. White Christmas it ain't. No one is ever really in trouble. Not the "18 year old" who has run away from her parents to New York, not the kids on the street. No one. And the tension between the old father and the new really isn't driven home. The golf scene? Why? As a resuIt, the movie goes on an on, two hours plus. The final crisis and resolution fails to impress because by then, you really don't care. See more Jay W @RT52162311 Dec 22 "Going My Way" is the 1944 Best Picture winner. It stars Bing Crosby as a Catholic priest, Father O'Malley. He goes to help Father Fitzgibbon with his parish. Knowing Bing Crosby, this is done through being charming and doing a fair amount of singing. All the actors do a good job in their roles, but there isn't much conflict in the story. In fact, the movie's conflict gets resolved, only to have to be resolved a second time in the final 20 minutes. This makes the pacing of the movie feel a bit lopsided. How Bing won the Oscar for this performance escapes me. The film is now considered schmaltz even though winning multiple Academy Awards, including Best Picture. See more Leaburn O @RT35452347 01/17/2021 It's a crowded field to decide the worst winner of an Oscar best picture but this is a strong contender. Pretty much just an excuse for Bing to do loads of singing. This weird gang of kids whore led by a much older kid, really odd, are immediately reformed into choir boys. Priest Bing is just a nice man working with a grouchy Irishman. There's pretty much nothing to see here, no edge to the film, no real angle. The moral of the story seems to be.... be nice. It's weak.
