What to Know

Critics Consensus

A deft balance of prickly and sweet that's bound together by Robert Aramayo's knockout performance, I Swear doesn't sugarcoat the challenges of Tourette syndrome while delivering an uplifting tale of resilience.

I Swear happily adheres to the British cinematic tradition of small town underdog stories, without ever hijacking and streamlining Davidson’s experiences to maximise its “feel-good” credentials. Go to Full Review

All of which could be just so much trite sappy feel-good nonsense in a biopic. But veteran director Kirk Jones deftly avoids all pitfalls, managing to make his film have emotional impact rather than a sentimental one. Go to Full Review

I Swear is an audacious biopic that has no issues tackling the roots of a serious topic, and its dedication to that task does lead to some scenes that will certainly be upsetting to some viewers. Go to Full Review

In less capable hands, Davidson would feel like a caricature, but Aramayo manages to make his Tourette's tics clearly involuntary, playing both the funny and the sad bits beautifully. Go to Full Review

Bukky b @Naijadaydreamer 1d Its been a very long time that I wept so profusely over a movie. It is such a beautiful rendering of such a difficult life. I think it should be shown in schools as educational material because it has so many life lessons about triumphing over life’s adversities. The main actor deserves every accolade. See more Abdullah A. @Allopac 1d Hands down the best film I’ve seen in a long time. This story is absolutely hilarious, but it also does an incredible job highlighting the reality of living with Tourette's. I actually learned so much about the condition that I never knew before. It's an amazing, must watch movie! See more Arwen K @Arwen81 2d Not many words needed, Just amazing! See more Benjamin H @PeterReview Feb 14 This is a great movie with so much effort put in by Robert Aramayo. Not only did he do incredibly well with the tourettes acting but spent a lot of time in the real location to make sure his accent was on point. The story had many emotions, frustration, anger, sorrow, happiness, joy, sadness and more. Best and most interesting movie I've seen in years. See more Chrissy S @Chrissyystubbss Feb 14 Absolutely amazing performance, the way the character has taken Davidsons life lessons and portrayed it in a way on screen at how deep and raw toretes actually goes is breathtaking. Such an educational film aswell as heartwarming, funny and it really gets your cogs moving on how people with toretes actually feel. An amazing film and I will be telling all to watch it that I come into contact with in the coming weeks!
