The latest, "It Hunts", is a stylish horror film full of creepy oddities and intensity, often unfolding like a dream. The film follows a nocturnal man who is stalked by a supernatural entity while trying to maintain his relationship with his girlfriend and hold himself together. The mix of real-world pressures and frightening episodes is deftly put together. There is some very stylish filmmaking happening here, very well put together under tight resources. This is the type of DIY filmmaking I love to see, and I'm giving It Hunts my highest mark. That’s my thing! Right off the bat I’m going to tell you, this is not a slasher. If that’s what you’re looking for, you have to go elsewhere. It’s violent, but not overly so. There's not enough of these out of the box supernatural mysteries to quench my thirst. I noticed a lot of people complaining about the details and stuff they didn’t get. I watched this movie twice so here come some serious spoilers: Casey hates parties, drinking, fixing computers and doesn’t drive because subconsciously he associates those things with the stuff he’s repressing, or maybe erased with Xirtamine, I’m not sure. The bit about the Grim Reaper is explained in the film and so are the Replays and Tripping. The only thing I didn’t get was the bit about the diary and the Red Devil Rum. Instead, the film embraces practical suspense and strong atmosphere over excessive visual effects, resulting in a more intimate and unnerving experience. The cast made the tension believable and the characters felt like you wanted to root for them. The cinematography makes excellent use of darkness and isolation, while the pacing gradually increases the tension until the final act. See more Gabriel G @3thingsaboutit Jul 26 I really enjoyed this. It has quite a bit of violence but definitely not a slasher. I guess I could liken it to films like The Empty Man, The Night House, and maybe It follows for the indie, slow-burn style and that feel that there's an evil entity coming for the main characters. It Hunts is definitely one of those very out of the box movies, where you're not sure what to expect, or where it is going. Pretty much like the movies mentioned above. I liked the mystery, the atmosphere. It has a couple of jump scares but doesn't rely too heavily on those. I read a review or two on Letterboxd of people complaining because they didn't get a lot of the details. The movie is definitely very layered. You'll probably get the story but you're not going to get all the details like the whole deal with the Xirtamine, the Red Devil Rum and the girl's diary the first time around.
