Damien Sachs (Sacha Baron Cohen) seemingly has it all: money, power, and a never ending stream of casual flings. As he prepares to ascend to the role of CEO at a leading advertising agency, his life is turned upside down when he wakes up in his worst nightmare: a parallel world dominated by women. Where he once ruled the boardroom, he now finds himself humbled and going head-to-head with the newly fierce and fearless Alex Fox (Rosamund Pike). With the rules of engagement changed and Alex at the top of her game, the two boldly battle it out in a playful and satirical comedy about what happens when the script is flipped.

The destination of “Ladies First” might as well be on tracks. But Ms. Pike is terrific, as are Ms. Shaw, Mr. Dance and Mr. Baron Cohen, an agile comedian in a production that isn’t particularly taxing.

By merely substituting genders and pitting them head-on in a battle of the sexes, the film’s exploitative vigor both overrides any real accountability... and worryingly reduces sexual discrimination to a happy inevitability.

Funny and the details are well thought out! I enjoyed it and gives perspective on what women have to deal with on a regular basis while still making this movie an enjoyable watch.

It is not lost on me that the worst reviews for this film are from men. This is a fun companion to the French film and satirizes current power dynamics with an outstanding cast. Well worth watching and we will be watching again. My teenagers understood that the lack of nuance is intentional, something many reviewers seem to be missing.

Not Oscar material, obviously, but a very watchable romcom and well acted by all the cast. To be honest, any film with Rosamund Pike is a good film. Some good gender-reversal jokes and a nice ending. A pleasant way to spend an evening.
