An intriguing premise full of potentially though falls in the middle during the characterization. The opening credits of the movie with such montage of Halloween decoration sets the vibe straightaway. When the film looked like it's another sluggish slasher the plot shifts and changes its tone. Though the plot could have been improvised in many ways in the middle that is the only moment I believe the film tests your patience. It's not the best film but with low budget it's a very clever direction. The cinematography is very vivid the color used here shifting from orange to blue is very striking and pretty good. The acting is acceptable neither so awful nor so incredible all things considered. The dialogues are genuinely where the film falls short and misses the mark. This isn't the film for everyone, it's not really a scary film with a lot of jump-scares rather it's more about the craft of film making. If, movies like Hush and Don't Breathe attract you then this is something you would like otherwise it's just another horror/slasher movie as mentioned. See more 08/06/2014 The plot behind this movie is unique and actually very good, as far as I'm concerned. I had assume it was going to be a dull slash film that I was going to turn off rather quickly but in less than 10 minutes I was interested and wanting to see where the story was going. The characters are interest, I understand why they do the things they do (which isn't always the case for some horror films), I wanted to know more about them, I thought they were fun, and I genuinely liked them as characters. Malcolm McDowell is in the film very briefly and I was very disappointed how little was seen from him. That being said, he play his role wonderfully, if a little hammy (though he's good at it so I'm certainly not complaining). The film isn't for everyone, it's not really scary and (I'm gonna be honest) the trailer pretty much lies to the audience about what the film is and is about. If you've ever wondered what it loves like when two serial killers fall in love, this film may fascinate you as much as it did me, if not or you just don't like love stories, this film will likely not interest you. I'd give Mischief Night 3.5 out of 5, it's not the best but I think it's a great film and worth a watch, if it can keep your interest. See more Read all reviews
