Darcy (Dev Patel) and Daphne (Rosy McEwen) Davenport are freshly decamped from London and taking up residence in an isolated cottage deep in the Welsh countryside in search of creative renewal and acoustic inspiration. When the couple set about exploring their new environs, recording instruments in tow, Darcy stumbles upon a "faerie circle" that emits a strange, unidentifiable frequency; this odd discovery is followed closely by the appearance of an otherworldly child (Jade Croot) who claims to live nearby and is eager to befriend the Davenports. Soon the child becomes a fixture in their household, alternately ingratiating himself and raising suspicions, and exposing unacknowledged rifts and unexamined secrets that threaten to wreak psychological and spiritual havoc in the lives of his makeshift adoptive parents.

A bold creative swing that doesn't quite connect, Rabbit Trap captures the attention with its hypnotic soundscape but can't maintain its hold due to a disappointingly thin story.

The cinematography is absolutely stunning. Every scene feels so intentional and beautiful, even when the story itself is making you deeply uncomfortable. It’s psychological horror in the best way possible. I spent almost the entire movie with this knot in my throat, feeling tense and anxious. At the same time, watching it was strangely satisfying. I don’t even know if "satisfying" is the right word in English, but the film has such a natural flow and the actors make everything feel very real and grounded. Nothing feels exaggerated. It slowly makes you feel that something is wrong until you start to feel desperate.

Synopsis
