While flying to his father's funeral in rural Appalachia, an intense storm causes Marquis to lose control of the plane carrying himself and his family. He soon awakens wounded, alone and trapped in Ms. Eloise's attic. Eloise claims she can nurse him back to health with a hoodoo figure she's made from his blood and skin. Unable to call for help, Marquis desperately tries to break free from her dark magic and save his family from a sinister ritual before the rise of the blood moon.

It was OK. Would have liked to know the reason for him being held. Unrealistic to have him pull out and put back in the nail in his heel. But good acting still.

Spell (2020) is a film that has a very lukewarm start, but later on, when things start to happen and develop, it becomes very interesting to follow. The script, by the way, is quite slow and poorly written, the few characters it has fail to deliver good performances and delve into the central story.

A witchcraft horror movie that, despite a few twists, ends up being pretty predictable and uneventful. What makes this film watchable is the sheer talent of Omari Hardwick and a couple of other actors who delivered strong performances. Whether it's Mark Tonderai's direction or the actors skills, they add some much-needed depth to the story. However, the ending is quite the letdown and detracts significantly from the overall experience. If the conclusion had been more satisfying, it could have easily bumped the rating by half a star or an entire star. While it has its moments, don't expect to be on the edge of your seat the whole time for this one.
