Critics Consensus

Streets of Fire may sometimes buckle under the strain of its ambitious fusion of disparate genres, but Walter Hill's bravura style gives this motorcycle musical fuel to burn.

The movie is right on the rock & roll, but the alternative time and place are mysteriously convincing -- especially if, like me, you believe the most beautiful post-war American cars were Studebakers. Go to Full Review

Though a failure at the box-office when released, it has aged well and doesn't look that bad when viewed today. Go to Full Review

Walter Hill directs the hell out of this and there are more people in the cast who understand the assignment than do not. But boy do the ones who blow it, along with some second-tier songs from Jim Steinman, render this one of Hill's weaker efforts. Go to Full Review

Not only is it the greatest opening sequence of Hill’s career, it’s the greatest opening in film history, period. Go to Full Review

Kirsten W. @kirght 1d I’ve loved this movie since I was a kid. See more Thomas F Aug 26 Did I watch the same movie as everyone else? I actually thought this was a parody at one point because I couldn’t believe how awful it was. One guy said it aged well too, what about the part when he punches her in the face to knock her out? Or when it was basically revealed that the reason she was kidnapped was to be raped? I wish I took a sip of beer for every cheesy one liner, so that I wouldn’t have remembered the second half of the movie. See more David M @dmitch1894 Aug 11 Walter Hill certainly tried as hard as he could. Great worldbuilding, cast, visuals, soundtrack, action scenes. Script and overall plot are not the movie's strongpoints. Amazing how many in the cast went on to big Hollywood careers. Surprised Michael Pare wasn't one of them. Dance from Marine Jahan from flash dance was awesome. Excellent! See more Nick O @Nicki1985 Jun 25 This thing reads like Phantom Of The Paradise meets The Warriors except set in a weird 1950’s Rock n’ Roll dystopian alternate universe! So…don’t you really wanna see it!?! See more William W 11/25/2024 LOW BUDGET; BUT YOU SURE GET A BANG FOR YOUR BUCK. See more Read all reviews
