At the onset of World War I, British officer Roy Cronin and ballerina Myra meet and fall in love. As fate would have it, Cronin is called to active duty shortly thereafter. When Cronin's departure coincides with a performance, Myra chooses to skip the ballet to see her love leave. As a result, she is dismissed from the ballet and struggles to make ends meet -- and when she reads of Cronin's misreported death, Myra hits rock bottom, resorting to prostitution.

Let there be no doubt about it. Vivien Leigh is as fine an actress as we have on the screen today. Maybe even the finest, and that's a lot to say.

not since gone with the wind has a flim broke my heart the way vivan legiah died in water loo bridge she cloud cry tears and make u feel her pain this was her best flim of her entire carrer robert taylor looking over waterloo bridge as he begains to cry this is the most heartbreaking flim.of all time in my opion vivan legiah and robert taylot were surburb in this fllm 10 out 10

A superb melodrama shot in very good black and white cinematography. It completely avoids cheap sentimentality. True to the ethics of the era it was shot, although it implies prostitution, it includes absolutely no nudity. Probably it is my dirty mind and apparently it was noticed when they made the movie, but near the end Ms Leigh wears a dress with some folds on the bust that under some angles create the impression of an exaggerated nipple. In the first half the actress looks a little plain. In the second half she is transformed and creates different impressions with different angles. The final violent conclusion is done very well. No reason to show blood or mangled tissues. The last anguished expression on her face says it all. Interestingly, the movie shot in 1940 about the First World War could not foresee what was going to happen over the next five years.

What a great move. Robert Taylor had such amazing charisma and Vivian Leigh truly is an incredible actress. Their chemistry together was something else (they captured that lovestruck feeling viscerally) and the overall film’s tone totally took me away. Loved it!

I loved this movie. Waterloo Bridge remains the best film I have ever watched. Vivien Leigh was truly one of the greatest actresses of her generation.
