Rampantly and consistently disturbing, it challenges even hardcore horror fans, and will likely utterly unnerve anyone new to the genre. Following a young woman’s quest for revenge that spirals into something far darker, its prolonged, realistic violence is mentally punishing, the tone cold, bleak, and unsparing, and it offers no comedic relief or false comfort. From the first frame, it’s raw and unflinching and definitely one of the most powerful pieces of cinema of the last 20 years. It's an endurance test for sure, leaving you shaken long after the credits roll. Best experienced at night, alone, with the lights off.
