For Sheriff Ulysses (Bob Odenkirk), his provisional posting to the quaint Midwestern American town of Normal was meant to be a welcome respite from both his marital woes and recent moral injuries in the line of duty. But when a botched bank robbery interrupts the municipality's tranquil pace, a dark secret is inadvertently exposed, and Ulysses soon discovers that the town is anything but its namesake.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

Normal thrives on Bob Odenkirk's gruff yet playful presence and director Ben Wheatley's over-the-top carnage, delivering simple, ridiculous, and consistently entertaining thrills despite its familiar premise.

Admittedly, the dialogue could be sharper -- a few too many zingers zonk out -- but Normal goes about its carnage with such sincerity, it’s impossible to resist. Go to Full Review

"the thing about overtly referencing a film as funny and deft as "Fargo" is that it’s only going to make us think about "Fargo," so your film better be just as good — or at least come close. Alas, "Normal" does not." Go to Full Review

In the frigid and unsatisfying “Normal,” you want to root for them, but there's precious little joy or verve in this empty shell of a genre-splicing underachiever. Go to Full Review

This was a film that I think was not serious enough and not fun enough to be anything. If it had been more serious, I think it would have been a better movie. If it had been more fun, I think it would have been a better movie. Go to Full Review

Bill N 3h A bad @ film, which actually throws you off with the way they set up the film...you think they are going one way and they went another. I really enjoyed this and I hope they figure out how to get the sheriff and deputy into more adventures. See more William H 5h A great action flick. It was perfectly cast and is a must-see movie. It has some twists to it, which makes it a great movie See more Rhonda S 6h Nothing normal about Normal, MN. Being from Minnesota, I hate the over dramatizing accents. (thats not how we talk!) The movie itself was good, and had some very laugh out loud moments. Enjoyed the story line and the characters. Id recommend it. See more JEFFREY B 7h Very fun movie.surprised at how well the story was developed, and the expected comedic carnage (an oxymoron I know, but it applies) was very entertaining! Feel a little guilty about that, but it wasnt real, so what the hecklol See more Ty 7h plot was lacking a little but still a good fun flick See more John C 8h Little too much blood and brain matter disseminated.
