See more Patrick H. @patman1on1 1d I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did. Terri Joe: Missionary in Miami is intentionally chaotic and off-center, but it never feels try-hard or manufactured. That balance is tough to pull off, and the film handles it with surprising confidence. At first glance, it’s easy to write it off as ridiculous. Sit with it a little longer, though, and you start to see the craft underneath. The humor is sharp, the pacing is deliberate, and there’s a self-awareness that keeps it from tipping into pure nonsense. What looks dumb on the surface is actually a cleverly constructed, well-made film that knows exactly what it’s doing. See more Ryan S @Moviewatchinhomaseggsual 3d Four stars because I am rooting for Terrijoe and never want her to go away. 💕 That said, as a fan for a few years now, I think the videos on insta-live and YouTube are much funnier. There were some genuinely touching scenes in the movie though and it made me laugh. 🤭 I feel like the disses could have been more original and creative. If Kelon partners more with some of the other creators who diss Terrijoee harder than he can diss himself alone - this movie would have been even better. Like how amazing if there were cameos from Amanda the nurse who is definitely not racist, Terri’s one friend with the braces who reads her for filth, and that very pretty trans woman who is always ready with comebacks. I feel like Kelon’s interactions with these other creators gives a lot of fresh material to the comedy. Perhaps this was the missing ingredient here. The drag queen from the chicken shop was 10/10 in this. And the hairdresser was great too. 🤭 Lots of potential, but not fully baked. I didn’t care for the films ending. While the film doesn’t fully elevate beyond its sketch-like roots, it works as light, irreverent entertainment.
