A criticism that may well come up for horror fans is that bar one or two jumps, it’s not actually all that scary. Instead, there is more of a melancholic weirdness, which, to my mind, works pretty well given the subject matter.

Voice of Shadows was fun to watch and well made, but there’s just not a lot of meat on these bones. It’s not a particularly original story, and, while it’s well made for a low budget affair, I would call it fun, or scary, or thought provoking.

Gothic horror can be deliberately stalling for story advancement, setting up the stage for a real gruesome climax. This was not the case in Voice of Shadows. The disappointing and long-winded conversations culminated to a less than thrilling finale.

Writer-director Nicholas Bain has created a supernatural thriller with buckets of atmosphere in Voice of Shadows. With a camera that verges on the predatory, it succeeds in capturing a sense of creeping dread that helps sell this tried and tested formula.

Everything is in place for a perfectly acceptable horror movie, but each additional miscue takes away from the overall enjoyment. That being said, there is enough here to make for a fine watch for the upcoming spooky season.

A good movie. Definitely worth a watch, especially if you are looking for something a little different in terms of themes. The movie has some intricate pacing but moves a little slow out the gate. Not that nothing happens. Music, cinematography and locations are great. Story has some interesting twists as well.

A phenomenal success from first time writer/director Bain. The movie had a good pace, it knew when to slow down and when to speed up the action. The dialog flowed wonderfully and the actors did a fantastic job of sucking me into the story. Definitely recommend.

There's a lot going on here but it takes a little while to flare up. There's a lot of traditional horror movie tropes going on here but yet I have never seen a movie like it. There's a good structure to the story and lots of strong elements. For an indie I had never heard of this is great!
