Critics Consensus

George Lazenby's only appearance as 007 is a fine entry in the series, featuring one of the most intriguing Bond girls in Tracy di Vincenzo (Diana Rigg), breathtaking visuals, and some great ski chases.

Film of break-neck physical excitement and stunning visual attractions in which George Lazenby replaced Sean Connery as James Bond. Go to Full Review

Director Peter Hunt manages to inject some life into this 1969 exercise with a wonderful ski chase, but otherwise the film is a bore. Go to Full Review

Certainly no worse than the later Roger Moore efforts and, if only for curiosity value, is well worth a look. Go to Full Review

[George] Lazenby strikes a nice balance between self-aware humor and superspy action. It is still one of the best Bond films of all time. Go to Full Review

On Her Majesty's Secret Service remains a fine bond film. Where the story is not super engaging and the film overall does feel long, George Lazenby is fun enough as Bond and the story is just clean enough to where you can get a bit invested in it. Go to Full Review

Alejandro E @Alex970 1d Why George Lazenby failed to fill the shoes of the iconic Agent 007 is partly a mystery. The story does fulfil its purpose, just like the previous instalments, were it not for the absence of the typical gadgets and the atypical but tragic final act. Nothing is lost by watching it out of curiosity. See more Kathleen M @Katmonty2 3d Fun skiing pursuit scenes, nice Bond girl in Diana Rigg and overall a pretty good entry into the series See more Alice A @Aaaaaaaa007 Feb 14 James Bond under cover as a genealogist, so boring. I lost interest somewhere around Telly Savalas talking about his earlobes See more Alec B @Alec97 Feb 9 Possibly the best Bond movie. The love story is genuinely romantic and Blofeld's evil psychedelic hypnosis plan to distribute a virus via an international group of brainwashed young women is the kind of thing that I wish these movies did more of. Lazenby is a good James Bond actually, he has a kind of quiet melancholy that adds convincing depth to the character. Also the tragic ending is still surprising and heartbreaking. See more John Y. @JYJr16 Feb 5 Only Bond appearance for Lazenby. And a solid one it was. It helped that the supporting cast had Telly Savalas as Blofeld and Diana Rigg as Tracy, the one who finally wins 007’s heart. Decent plot as well. See more keven q @kevenquinlan Jan 24 I have no idea why Lazenby was panned before he even was screened. Listen, I like Connery and was glad ha had a late career resurgence, but I never thought he was all that and given the 'era' of cinema, I didn't think it required much acting. He was good- that's all. Lazenby I thought was Awesome. He was what Bond should've been. And the movie was the best they'd made so far. I hope everyone gets a chance to watch it b/c if you don't like it than NONE of Sean Connery's were any good. See more Read all reviews
