For Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas), life is good. He is on the rise at his New York law firm, is happily married to his wife, Beth (Anne Archer), and has a loving daughter. But, after a casual fling with a sultry book editor named Alex (Glenn Close), everything changes. Jilted by Dan, Alex becomes unstable, her behavior escalating from aggressive pursuit to obsessive stalking. Dan realizes that his main problem is not hiding his affair, but rather saving himself and his family.

This is a horror film based on the sanctity of the family -- the dream family. It enforces conventional morality (in the era of AIDS) by piling on paranoiac fear. The family that kills together stays together, and the audience is hyped up.

watched it purely for the sake of "the thrill", but was disappointed in that sense. i also found some aspects to be shallow or mildly irritating.

Sacrificially shallow with little nuances to deepen anything into rather mere psychotic obsession due to lack of communication that’s plausible on both sides, but Glenn Close’s early corruption musters the ideal emittance for her character to validate the eventual suspense while Michael Douglas delivers one of his best performances. (B)

First time i've seen it since the 80's, i had forgotten just how good this movie was. I'm a big michael douglas fan and this is his best movie imho. New movies nowadays this good are few and far between.

Synopsis
