It’s a production that is certain to create division...but for me it’s a lovely, if disturbing, version of a book its author once described as “a cookie baked by a first grader – tasty enough, but kind of lumpy and burned on the bottom”. Go to Full Review

[Mike Flanagan] has turned “Carrie” into a sharp-fanged cyberbullying cautionary tale. This approach is certainly relevant to the day and age, but it also dilutes the directness of King’s focus on an ugly duckling pushed past her limits. Go to Full Review

A tale for our times but an overprotracted finale and various other superfluous additions to the story did made me long for the lean, mean concision of the original film. Go to Full Review

This does not have the raw, bare cruelty of the '70s. You can't recreate that in new circumstances. But the way that it communicates the overwhelming cruelty within the most darkly terrifying character and character moments of this show feel so effective. Go to Full Review

Mike Flanagan's take on Carrie brings the story to a modern audience, with an effective look at cyberbullying and how it goes beyond the school walls. But a few deviations from the book might frustrate Stephen King fans. Go to Full Review

See more Erik K @RT83326342 8 hrs ago Can’t stop watching the episodes, and the women’s study lessons at the beginning of each episode are amazing. Everyone knows the ending from the original, but they bring it back and add a new twist with “others” See more Ruben G @HoTToucH 9 hrs ago Wow, what an incredible twist on the formula. I can’t possibly talk about this without spoiling it but it’s an incredible twist. A must watch by every sense of the word See more Vixo S @vixo_six 9 hrs ago Carrie’s first season succeeds when it updates the story through cyberbullying, abuse, mental health, school violence, and the cruelty that turns suffering into entertainment. Summer H. Howell and Matthew Lillard give the series real weight, but some adult-looking teenage casting and the softened physical characterization of Carrie weaken the meaning of her humiliation. Arthur Conti’s Billy also feels almost irrelevant. My biggest problem is the finale, which fragments the prom massacre to introduce a wider mythology that feels like a strange X-Men or "X-Women" detour. I liked much more than I disliked, but I hope a second season proves this is still Carrie’s story. See more Allan D @RT50770450 10 hrs ago Was skeptical initially that there needs to be yet another version of this story, but eventually was sucked in by the new take on Margaret White, the gradual and more realistic radicalization of Chris Hargensen and her family dynamics, and the mysterious teen, Emmaline, who resulted ion a genuine holy-shit moment. The character of Carrie wasn't super compelling to me, but the actress is very watchable and did a decent job of inhabiting the character. I was a little confused by the meme-culture cyber-bullying but that's not my generation. Other gripes were that Sue Snell and Tommy Ross were pretty boring and passive and the student riot felt kind of forced. See more Read all reviews
