Too much movie is better than not enough, and there’s a generosity to La Bola Negra’s maximalism. Go to Full Review

Yes, there’s emotional extravagance to it all, which tips into melodrama, but this is moving art about the human condition. Go to Full Review

The baroque, narrative-upon-narrative approach of La Bola Negra proves less galvanizing than tiresome, its confused maximalism leaving one with little more than a mild case of cinematic shell shock. Go to Full Review

LA BOLA NEGRA is truly a beautiful film --- majestic in its scope, rich in luscious landscapes and the horrors of war. But mostly LA BOLA NEGRA is about love. Go to Full Review

The main cast is Spanish, and all the actors are formidable, including those making their acting debut. Go to Full Review

The film's art design is pregnant with art and visual poetry, religious iconography and shelled-out destruction, a verdant tableau painted by cinematographer Gris Jordan's cameras. Go to Full Review

Los Javis lo han vuelto a hacer. Javier Calvo & Ambrossi explore the importance of recovery, lost art and Spanish heritage. See more Dvir B @Dvir971 9 hrs ago The hype for this film on social media was sky-high, so I came with big expectations. Alas, these expectations were far from being met, and I went out of the film finding it not all that exceptional, and feeling mostly underwhelmed. The scope is truly impressive, but it also means not much gets to breathe properly, and the execution, storytelling-wise, remains mostly lacking. As the movie progresses, even after the halfway mark, it keeps expanding rather than converging, with material that keeps on arriving because the plethora of intentions the movie aims at requires it, yet not because the story is actually ready for it. Overall, 'La Bola Negra' is a decent film that is made very well on a technical level but lacks something that would make it truly remarkable. It's much longer than it needs to be— even boring at times— and while it tells an important and interesting story through a very original structure, the writing leaves something to be desired.
