After surviving a car accident, Michelle (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) wakes up to find herself in an underground bunker with two men. Howard (John Goodman) tells her that a massive chemical attack has rendered the air unbreathable, and their only hope of survival is to remain inside. Despite the comforts of home, Howard's controlling and menacing nature makes Michelle want to escape. After taking matters into her own hands, the young woman finally discovers the truth about the outside world.

I remember watching this movie twice when it was playing in the movie theater. The second viewing was with my sister, who wanted to take me to a fancy dine-in theater to see a movie as a birthday gift. Anyway, I still find it fascinating that the movie's marketing was so "hush hush" about the plot details that barely anyone noticed the obvious hint that this was a sequel to the other movie, which also had a great marketing campaign that surprised a lot of viewers. Ah, how I miss the old days when you could see a movie and not have the entire plot spoiled for you by the marketing promos. Also, I am a very firm believer that John Goodman should have received all the major acting awards that year because of his work in this movie.
