Gareth V @geewah 4 hrs ago It’s more of a lecture than a thriller, and it can feel a little too pleased with itself, but it’s a stirring tribute to speaking truth to power. See more Teddy B @RT90521672 Oct 6, 2026 Perhaps it was studying this in school that has caused me to grow quite bitter towards it, but 'Good Night, and Good Luck' is a thoroughly bland and unemotional film, using its real-life figures as coat-pegs to hang up profundity rather than treating them as people suffering personal impacts of McCarthyism. Murrow, acting more like a saviour or Clooney's own self-righteous historical self-insert, is overtly idolised, and sucks up all the interest away from the other characters and events. Hollenbeck's death marks a grave missed opportunity for exploring the personal cost of Murrow's rebellion and neglect, yet it immediately dissipates into nothing, not even the memory of an emotional impact, entirely forgotten by the characters and filmmakers. The cinematography and performances are fine, even if both make every character look and act exactly the same way, and the somber jazz soundtrack does help smooth out some bumps in the plot, but GNGL remains a biased, pretentious and dull film. See more Michael A @Kinich61 Jun 23, 2026 Great direction, screenplay, and acting on a very important time in the political history of the USA. See more Quinn R @qritz7 Apr 14, 2026 A sharp reminder of the importance of journalism and holding truth to power. Wonderfully depicted through great acting. However, due to the maybe dry topic, the film could have benefited from much quicker pacing. The movie is excellently written and directed by George Clooney. The film was shot in in black-and-white with great lighting and cinematography. The acting is terrific all across the board. I love the jazzy noir soundtrack. We get a great opening speech about how mass media and TV is used to distract and brainwash the American public through propaganda during McCarthy's communist witch hunt. The movie is full of great dialogue and political rhetoric. The movie has great themes about the importance of journalistic integrity to preserve the truth when presenting the news to the American public without any censorship or embellishments in the pursuit of censorship or sponsorship greed.
