12/24/2017 Long Days Journey Into Night --- FOR THE WHOLE NATION!!! See more 12/21/2017 A thought-provoking look at the anticipation for the 2016 Presidential Election, 11/8/16 is a pretty solid documentary. While it was clearly meant to celebrate a Hilary victory, given that most of the people that are followed are Hilary supporters (a group of illegal immigrates, a former convict, a union leader, a feminist college student, a black activist, etc.), the filmmakers end up recrafting the film into something quite interesting. The interviews have a nice candid, raw feel; depicting the types of conversations that people were having on the eve of the election. It also does a good job capturing the winds of change as election results came in; with Trump supporters starting to believe in the impossible and Hilary supports being shocked. Additionally, the film refrains from making any political commentary on the election of Trump, but instead lets the people it follows voice the mixed emotions of shock, disappointment, hope, and apathy that were felt by the electorate. Rather than attempt to explain or find meaning in the election, 11/8/16 tries to capture the mood of the voters; the complacency of Hilary supporters, and the pessimism of Trump supporters. See more 11/16/2017 If you want to relive Election Night 2016 this is the movie for you. There is a moment where the interviewer describes Donald Trump as "talking like a dick" which I found a little strange. In a documentary like this I think being unbiased is the better way to go. See more 11/16/2017 From start to finish, follows the final day of the 2016 Presidential election. The documentary flips from one side to the other showcasing various views and values in the process while keeping the filmmakers political views hidden as they should be. However, there is a noticable overtone from some of the subjects that come out as blatant racism, socialism, supporting criminality, and outright ingnorance of the causes of their own peril and economic downturns. May subjects who speak relate exactly what many of Americans felt before and during the election both as opinion fed by the media and through party propaganda and through real life experience. Make a running list from the beginning of the documentary of opinion/propaganda versus real life experience/actual events and you soon shall realize why Donald Trump won.
