BadNews R @TheMovieSearch Sep 7 The Narrows is a film that never truly takes off. From start to finish, it feels like you’re watching several different movies stitched together, each competing for attention but never blending into something cohesive. Instead of pulling me in, it left me completely lost—and, more importantly, completely bored. The setup tries to be sophisticated and clever, bouncing between the “neighborhood life” the main character grew up in and the new world he’s exposed to while off at college. On paper, that duality should create tension and depth. In execution, it just feels jumbled and disjointed, never finding its footing or establishing a rhythm. The screenplay is the film’s biggest downfall. The writing drags, stumbles, and circles back on itself to the point where I found myself dozing off—literally. I had to rewind multiple times, hoping it would finally click, but it never did. Instead, it settled into a nonchalant tone that kept the story flat and lifeless. At the end of the day, The Narrows isn’t gripping, it isn’t sharp, and it certainly isn’t entertaining. It’s a slow, unfocused drama that thinks it’s more profound than it actually is, and the result is a forgettable, dragging experience that I wouldn’t recommend. ⭐ Verdict: A dull, disjointed misfire that never earns your attention. See more 10/30/2013 As one might expect for a movie about a photographer the cinematography is of a high standard. The stills are especially artsy with lots of feeling and emotion. Sex, smuggling, drugs, cash, fighting and killing and the perfect Italian American free lifestyle comes to the forefront in a brash and hard way with a narrow mind set adding to the stupidity comes across well. See more 08/23/2013 A crime drama that's awfully familiar! 23/8/2013 See more 08/27/2012 A movie set in Brooklyn (shocker!) concerning a young guy who's being forced to choose between the neighborhood he's grown up in and what he really wants to do, photography and date a girl he met at school (even though he's actually engaged to another girl). He gets a job as a runner of diamonds for a mobster, who's one of his father's longtime friends. The plot sounds familiar, but is still barely interesting enough to keep your attention. The best acting jobs are from Titus Welliver (also excellent on Deadwood) and Vincent D'Onofrio (formerly of L&O: CI). See more Read all reviews
