After a year apart - attending different schools, meeting different people - the guys rent a beach house and vow to make this the best summer ever. As it turns out, whether that will happen or not has a lot to do with the girls. Between the wild parties, outrageous revelations and yes, a trip to band camp, they discover that times change and people change, but in the end, it's all about sticking together.

Critics Consensus

Being a sequel, American Pie 2 doesn't retain the freshness of the original, nor is it as funny.

Better than #1 but still raunchy. Teens love it.

Writer Adam Herz has an uncanny knack of turning even the most predictable scenarios into slices of comedy magic.

A slipshod sequel that looks tossed together over a weekend by people who couldn't care less.

Less a second slice than a reheated piece of the original, the sequel tastes just as good.

The filmmakers have essentially engineered the exact same formula as the first film (the lads are now a year into their college lives) except to rapidly diminishing effect.

Our second encounter with the Class of '99 is unashamedly similar to (but way slicker than) its predecessor.

American Pie 2 is the best sequels that pushes sexuality further, pushing the comedy further and make it into something decently glamorous.

It's a cheap and unmotivated sequel to the first movie (that definitely had no need for a sequel). It's a little funny but the original was only okay and this one was much worse.

It's hard to say whether or not it's better than the first, but what I can say is that it's just as funny as the first.
