Critics Consensus

Devouring too much chaotic action and not enough genuine thrills, Beware Boiúna fails to make the most of its mythical monstrosity despite some creative narrative twists.

I think [Mike Nelson] found a winning place in the spectrum of showing too much and showing not enough that worked well enough. I don't think he hit it perfectly, but I think he hit a point that made it work well for me.

For an unabashed B-movie like this one, achieving the modest ambition of pulling off one killer horror scene is enough.

For every moment in which it feels as if Nelson is meeting the desires of his thrill-seeking audience, there are so many more that land like defanged nothingness. In the end, Beware Boiúna’s title winds up acting as its own consumer warning.

A creature feature that’s more unpredictable than I was expecting. It takes the horror really seriously and it’s mean, brutal, and grimy, shot on location in the Amazon. A solid snake movie.

This is by no means a horror masterpiece or even a film you'll remember, but it is a fantastic Halloween release for anyone looking for a good scare without sacrificing quality. [Full review in Spanish]

More indebted to the original 1997 Anaconda that it should be, Boiúna features solid performances by Madeira and Rothe. Your mileage may vary on Marshall-Green's character though, and the climax should have been the boat set piece

This is exactly what you’d expect these kind of creature movies to be: mostly entertaining & not to be taken seriously. The ending sort of messes up the momentum but it is what it is.

I loved this movie. Some parts gave me the heebie jeebies. I'd recommend it.

Beware Boiúna is a solid enough creature feature. The Colombian Amazon makes for a great setting, and bringing the local folklore into the story gives the giant-snake premise a little more personality. It doesn't really bring anything new to the genre, though. Lots of jump cuts, familiar scares, people getting picked off one by one, and the usual female-survivor setup. Still, it moves along well, has some fun moments, and never really overstays its welcome. Nothing groundbreaking, but a decent watch for what it is.

I really liked this movie. It was like 70’sTarantino merged with 70’s Jaws and created a snake monster movie. There’s other stories going on along the way that helps to keep it interesting too.

Thought the trailer sold this really well. The snake looked good. The movie is just boring. Like at least Anaconda was bad in a fun way.
