Vixo S @vixo_six 8h Blade Runner surprised me more than I expected. I watched the Director’s Cut, and its retro futuristic world still feels astonishingly complete, but Vangelis’s score was what stayed with me most. At times, the music becomes the emotional center of the film, giving loneliness and melancholy to a city built from technology. Harrison Ford is excellent, yet Rutger Hauer is the revelation. Roy Batty begins as a threatening presence and gradually becomes the character who most clearly exposes the film’s central contradiction. If replicants can fear death, form memories and value life, what truly makes them less human? The film is not perfect, and some characters feel less developed than the world around them, but its greatest achievement is making humanity feel less like a biological fact than a moral choice. The theme is absolutely one of the most meaningful as well, as it is an adaptation to the novel 'Do androids dream of electric sheep', which is also one of my favorite dystopian novels. It takes the story it’s based on and improves it a lot. The original story is still good and I do recommend reading it, but the film was a treat to watch. The special effects are mind blowing, the acting is great, the atmosphere is rich and feels very real, but the plot dragssss ass. I almost fell asleep watching it. I get why Blade Runner impresses fans so much, I get how good a job the filmmakers did world building, but it ends up feeling like 90% of what I watched was world building. The twist at the very end when Deckard gets spared by Roy is deep enough that I give it 3 1/2 stars when I otherwise would have given it 2 1/2.
