When children in a small South Carolina community report seeing clowns hiding in the woods in 2016, few believe them. But as sightings spread across the country, panic escalates into school lockdowns, police investigations and a nationwide media frenzy. Featuring chilling archive footage, viral internet videos and revealing interviews with witnesses, law enforcement, clowns and cultural commentators, "Clown Panic" examines the collision of fear, social media and modern America at a moment of deep national anxiety. Darkly funny, unsettling and unexpectedly emotional, the film uncovers how a bizarre urban legend spiraled into a global moral panic that has echoes that resonate today.

Clown Panic covers a lot of ground but still spins its wheels. It presents a variety of stories, but the finished product feels too disjointed in design. It stumbles through its investigative experience, as if it’s wearing giant clown shoes.

The documentary Clown Panic starts off with a satirical tone about the widespread paranoia over killer clowns in 2016. However, the movie takes a more chilling turn when it shows how massive fear combined with civil unrest can turn deadly.

Clown Panic is not sensationalist. It’s grounded in the distinctly human knee-jerk reaction to fear with a mob mentality.

There was a distinct sense that CLOWN PANIC would have more of a focus on the political unrest that made it possible. It does touch on this, but not much more than that. Instead, we get shots from TV shows and movies that were...

Sure, clowns are scary. But scarier still is a culture of such profound mistrust that hatred of clowns becomes the only thing that people can agree on.

A solid documentary. Effectively shows how hysteria can build and how viral moments can get out of control

This documentary was borderline cringe and made with a clear underlying political agenda to it.. im so sick and tired of seeing far left extremism in shows and movies.. it seems to be getting worse and worse. Im here for entertainment not division! 🙄

This is extremely over-edited. Jumpy cuts, dramatic background music like a horror movie, and just generally poor storytelling. Spends a lot of time saying things like "and then everything went crazy" but not much time on the actual story. They also declare the whole thing to be a moral panic, but the film does a bad job of supporting that conclusion beyond just dismissing it as a prank.

A flashy documentary on 2016’s clown panic epidemic breaks down this terrifying trend and its connection to the American dream, but never digs deep enough to make much of a point.

Actually kind of impressed how boring the first part of this documentary is. The people interviewed don’t really have anything interesting to say. I think this topic has been better covered elsewhere.
