Four couples, all friends, descend on a tropical island resort. Though one husband and wife are there to work on their marriage, the others just want to enjoy some fun in the sun. They soon find out that the paradise comes at a price, participation in couples therapy sessions is mandatory. Critics Consensus

Despite a talented cast and some reliably pleasant interplay between Jon Favreau and Vince Vaughn, Couples Retreat leaves viewers stranded in an arid, mirthless comedy.

[Couples Retreat] is all about acknowledging feelings and good sex. Do we really need a film to tell us that?

The narrative is clunking and lazy, there to get characters from A to B without any respect for coherence or us, the audience.

Couples is so formulaic, so fake and relentlessly bland, it's hard to care if any of these pairings get a divorce, drown or are eaten by sharks. It has neither the ring of truth nor the fun of fantasy.

Mindless in the worst way, Couples Retreat exists for those without a sense of imagination or realism toward love and relationships.

The themes and overall missions of each set of couples in the film are too serious to simply slide in a few one-liners and sight gags and expect it not to feel forced.

Don’t take it too seriously….. obviously. My husband and I have watched this together countless times, and we always get a few great laughs out of it. Enough said.

Has some enjoyable banter and bits. Should probably be better considering the deep cast. Definitely chuckled.
