David M @vicardave 2 hrs ago This haunting classic fully deserves its lofty reputation. Julie Christie and Donald Sutherland are the married couple trying to survive and navigate the zenith of parental nightmares. It's a brilliantly constructed, superbly shot and edited film about grief, watching, looking, and being watched, and paranoia. Venice - where most of the film is set - is not the tourist destination, but rather shot to resemble a film noir type city of labyrinthine routes, and haunting shadows; the second half is suffused with an almost unbearable razor-wire tension, and the film's use of colour in general and red specifically adds to the sense of a brilliant malevolant entity stalking the protaganists. Sutherland stands out in a cast at the top of their game, and the whole thing is brilliantlhy steered and orchestrated by Roeg. The beginning is extremely upsetting but if you can get past that it's a clever and well acted piece of work. See more B. W @Walter773 Jul 12, 2026 Possibly the most overrated film I've ever seen. The film is known for it's terrifying ending. I've seen scarier scenes in Jerry Lewis films! It was a lot of boring build up with no pay off at all. And that final shocking conclusion would be laughable if I wasn't so upset about wasting 2 hours watching this farce. The film was so disappointing. I don’t think this movie is as good as others do in the reviews, but it’s definitely worth a watch. Maybe even a rewatch because there’s a lot going on. See more Blake- N @PBSAniDom Apr 26, 2026 Don't Look Now is a standout classic from the 1970s that still feels haunting and powerful today. It’s a slow-burning psychological thriller that relies heavily on atmosphere, emotion, and unease rather than traditional horror or constant action. What makes it so effective is its mood and craftsmanship. The film builds tension gradually, creating a sense of grief, mystery, and lingering dread that stays consistent throughout. The cinematography and editing are especially striking, giving the entire experience a dreamlike and unsettling quality that fits the story perfectly. The performances are also a major strength, grounding everything in believable emotion and making the characters feel real and deeply human. Overall, it’s a beautifully made and unforgettable film that stands as one of the greats of its era. I’d rate it a 9/10—a powerful, atmospheric classic from the 70s that leaves a lasting impression.
