Does it surpass the original? NO! Is it a bad film? No! If you liked the 80s classic version I recommend you take a pause and give this movie a try. See more Blu B @RT43513976 Nov 13 I love the original Fright Night so this already had a big wall to climb for me. But to its credit, I didn't hate it. In fact on its own this would be a good solid horror movie in its own right. But still it doesn't do anything different than the original. It's the same thing but not done as well. But it's got solid acting that does nail that self aware campy tone of the original almost to a tee. Colin is great as the new vampire and the best thing. I actually kind of like him better than the original. Sometimes though the dialouge can get a bit clunky at points and has trouble at points though. Everything else isn't bad. The CGI though is terrible at points but not laughably bad or enough I was taken out of things. It doesn't feel as smooth editing wise as the original and does feel like it bounces around at points with his girlfriend, the vampire, and with Vincent. Peter Vincent in this is alright but nowhere as good as McDowell was. He probably is the biggest letdown here. Also sometimes it gets so dark you can barely see and the direction can be hit or miss as well. But I have to say I still liked it at overall. If your a die hard fan of the franchsie, any actors here, or the director maybe check this out. But most should watch the 85' one. For what its worth, it wsa better than I expected.
