The same sturdy conventionality that made Gladiator a hit means that it’s built to last without standing particularly tall. With apologies to Ridley Scott, it holds up fine without echoing into eternity.

It is an honorable movie, so are they all honorable movies. But that's not enough. It's not great. It's a disappointment. Caesar hates disappointment, so kill it swiftly and be done.

Fine cast of actors bring this epic movie to life and you feel you're an eye-witness to the intrigue of ancient Rome, the grand-scale battles in Germania, and of course gladiator fighting in the Roman coliseum. This movie is rich in action scenes, enhanced by the big screen cinema and powerful sound. Puts you right there. If you want the ultimate viewing experience, don't rent this movie, see it at the theatre. Gladiator won five Oscars in 2001 you won't be disappointed.

In my opinion, Gladiator is one of the greatest films ever made. It gave me something more than just entertainment — it gave me motivation. It reminds you that nothing happens to a man that he cannot handle or overcome. The acting, especially by Russell Crowe as Maximus, is incredible. The cinematography and editing are beautiful, especially the scenes where Maximus travels to the afterlife to reunite with his family — those moments were deeply emotional and felt like a perfect ending. The music is unforgettable. Hans Zimmer created something truly timeless. The track "Now We Are Free" still echoes in my heart, just like the iconic score from Titanic.

It is a wonderful movie, and you feel that satisfaction while watching maximus get his revenge. I am an avid follower of stoic philosophy, I have read the meditations of Marcus Aurelius, and that has gotten me quite interested in the history of the Roman Empire. I have to give the movie 3.5 stars as the story is not very accurate to history. For example, Commodus actually ruled for over a decade, Marcus Aurelius was not assassinated by his own son, and Maximus is a completely fabricated character. I understand that the movie needs to be entertaining, but personally, its a pet peeve for me when movies based off historical events don't accurately portray what happened. However, if you don' care about the historical accuracy, its easily a 4.5 star movie. Very much worth a watch regardless. (sorry for the whole essay haha)
