At age 72, legendary trainer Ray Arcel (Robert De Niro) comes out of retirement to coach world-class Panamanian boxer Roberto Durán (Edgar Ramírez). Arcel becomes a mentor to the ferocious fighter, convincing him that winning ultimately comes down to strategy. After scoring knockout after knockout, Duran prepares for a bout against Sugar Ray Leonard, the undefeated lightweight champion. Five months later, on Nov. 25, 1980, the two titans meet for an infamous rematch that makes boxing history.

All this cacophony of backstory ends up being counterproductive, especially when the film tries to convey what makes this fighter worthy of tribute (or forgiveness or reconsideration, depending on your perspective).

This is the story of Sugar Ray Leonard vs Roberto Duran fights one and two, which includes the infamous "no mas!", told mostly from the perspective of Duran and his camp. If that's your thing, and/ or you can remember back then, you'll definitely enjoy the picture. Ana de Armas shines as Duran's love interest, and a decidedly strong turn by Mr. Deniro.

Couldn’t disagree more with the critics of this movie, particularly of the De Niro performance. It was a real pleasure watching one of the greatest film actors of our time getting so immersed in the role of the legendary trainer Ray Arcel. And a special shout out to Usher in his role as Sugar Ray Leonard. Dude had some serious boxing moves. I’d mark this one down as of the more memorable boxing movies. And stay tuned at the end for the great duet by Usher and Ruben Blades wh also had a role in the film.

Love the story but can not watch or support anything by the unhinged De Niro ... tried but the character he plays is ruined by his face and rhetoric. That's all I see when trying to enjoy a good story ruined it with bad casting.

A great boxing biopic, lacking any real depth to the story, feel like it was told on a very flat perspective. Boxing sequences were very well choreographed. Worth a watch.
