Panic strikes Jane Hammond (Natalie Portman) when her outlaw husband John returns to their farm with bullet wounds. Expecting the worst, she brings her young daughter to safety and travels to the home of Dan Frost (Joel Edgerton), a boozing ex-lover who may be her only hope. With Dan now on her side, Jane prepares for a showdown with the vengeful John Bishop and his gang of thugs. Looking to settle an old score, Bishop must now contend with the gun-toting Jane and her new partner.

What is here is enjoyable if taken on its own terms, much of Jane Got a Gun playing out with a 1940s or '50s Hollywood lan I found more than satisfying.

Good, exciting drama with lots of action, thought it was pretty cool even though Natalie Portman's acting is not the best. I get the feeling the movie won't stand out as incredibly memorable, but I liked the main character's ruthlessness and determination.

This is a pretty good movie. It has a nice aesthetic and a good story. Major negatives are that Natalie Portman leaves much to be desired in terms of acting and there are a few moments when it is hard to tell if something is happening in the present or in the past since there are frequent flashback scenes. The final battle is also so poorly lit that it is hard to tell what is going on. This is one of the few times playing random free YouTube movies roulette in which I was pleasantly surprised.

Found the pacing somewhat poor, and scenes not engaging. Must say I watched it on television, which does tend to break up the story and make it difficult to keep up. Other westerns made around the same time also seem to lack the engaging aspects of greats like Shoot Out, Broken Arrow, or other classics. These seem to be poor reproductions which lack the honesty, artistic approach, and believable acting that are better left behind.

What a surprise! Jane Got a Gun is a fantastic western with stellar performances and a great story. Natalie Portman delivered some of her best work and her chemistry with Joel Edgerton was amazing. Definitely worth watching.
