An enduring, singular masterpiece of cinema starring Academy Award®-winner Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed, KEN RUSSELL'S THE DEVILS is a prescient epic of obsession and corruption -- and a defining work of art from seminal filmmaker Ken Russell. Assembled from the original camera negative, this new 4K restoration presents Ken Russell's definitive vision of THE DEVILS by referencing the edit he privately constructed in 2004. KEN RUSSELL'S THE DEVILS is the uncut and unfiltered theatrical experience that Russell always envisioned -- and the first time the film will be presented restored and in 4K.

Russell’s reduction of the crowd to a jeering mass, repeating whatever was said last and cavorting to their own destruction, seems disturbingly prescient, but maybe that’s because that’s the way it’s always been.

With that said, the historical importance of a completed version of "The Devils" does not mean that I have to like the movie. I didn’t like it the other two times I saw it, so no added footage was going to change my mind.

The film is an audaciously blunt, fever-dream portrait of religious-inspired sexual hysteria.

It is a furious, visually astonishing, and deeply unsettling work that challenges viewers to confront the relationship between faith, fanaticism, and political power.

There is so much controversial material in "The Devils" that I can understand the brouhaha it stirred back in 1971. I think it will raise a few hackles up, even now.

Everyone should see this movie and examine the disgusting role that religion plays in this world. Absolving evil humans of their crimes while committing the innocent to death.

Not only still shocking, but politically acute and emotionally involving. Will not be to everyone’s liking, but a testament to the lasting power of great cinema. Vanessa Redgrave and Oliver Reed are magnificent!
