Marrying Sir Clifford Chatterley, Connie's life of wealth and privilege seems set as she takes the title of Lady Chatterley. Yet this idealistic union gradually becomes an incarceration when Clifford returns from the First World War with injuries that have left him unable to walk. When she meets and falls for Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper on the Chatterley family estate, their secret trysts lead her to a sensual, sexual awakening. Thought this was going to be like downton abbey but was then confronted with back to back ham spanking. It was quite a shock. Can’t believe I watched this with my nan. She loved it though.

I really couldn't get into it at all. I just kept getting distracted by the female lead's obvious severe anorexia and wondering when she was going to get help for it. The film lacked a certain sensuality and the sex scenes were like watching a skeleton have sex. No chemistry, no build up, no real depth, just abrupt, jerky storytelling heavily peppered with lackluster sex scenes featuring a sickly, malnourished woman. It didn't feel romantic at all, just frustrating, mildly repulsive and depressing to watch. Adding back a star to my rating for the full frontal male nudity and the female armpit hair - movies in general could use more of both of these, but I can't say I'll be watching it again. The book was worlds better, as usual.
