Marrying Sir Clifford Chatterley, Connie's life of wealth and privilege seems set as she takes the title of Lady Chatterley. Yet this idealistic union gradually becomes an incarceration when Clifford returns from the First World War with injuries that have left him unable to walk. When she meets and falls for Oliver Mellors, the gamekeeper on the Chatterley family estate, their secret trysts lead her to a sensual, sexual awakening. But as their affair becomes the subject of local gossip, Connie faces a life-altering decision: follow her heart or return to her husband and endure what Edwardian society expects of her.

Critics Consensus

Arguably the best screen version of this oft-adapted tale, Lady Chatterley's Lover sets itself apart with solid acting and a refreshingly frank treatment of the story's mature themes.

This thoughtful film, scripted by Oscar-nominee David Magee, touches on other themes explored in the novel, such as post-war trauma and the advance of industrialisation...

It’s a seductive, highly charged and intoxicating affair.

De Clermont-Tonnerre’s film threatens, in some scenes, to become a tad too romantic... Still, the otherwise thoughtful adaptation entranced me.

Bathed in soft, delicate light at every turn, Corrin and O’Connell feel more like a beautifully posed painting than the fierce coupling they’re supposed to emulate, the film’s look too muted to properly capture that fire.

As it is, this is a terrifically acted and exquisitely shot adaptation that nonetheless feels a little bland.

Lady Chatterley’s Lover is a powerful and passionate depiction of intimacy and pleasure, which provides an idealistic perspective of the story.

One of the many remakes of this story; well-made and well-acted. It features good dialogue that critically examines the female and male perspectives without becoming politicized. A solid erotic film dealing with a subject that always raises many questions.

Absolutely beautiful. *Lady Chatterley’s Lover* completely captivated me with its lush cinematography, gorgeous costumes, and deeply sensual atmosphere. The romance felt passionate and intimate without losing its tenderness, and the chemistry between the characters was impossible to ignore. I especially loved how the story explores desire, freedom, class, and the need to feel truly alive. There’s something almost dreamlike about the countryside setting, which makes the romance feel even more intense and immersive. A beautiful, emotional, and wonderfully sensual love story ~ the kind of film I could happily watch again and again.

I just couldn’t feel the chemistry between the two main characters. The acting felt rather superficial. The connection between Connie and Mellors is much more complicated than simply physical attraction. I don’t see good interpretation of loneliness, frustration, vulnerability, and a gradual sense of emotional and spiritual connection. Having read the book, I feel the film seemed to focus much more on the surface of the story. There is no depth.
