Beautiful Mandy Lane (Amber Heard) isn't a party girl but, when classmate Chloe (Whitney Able) invites the Texas high school student to a bash in the countryside, she reluctantly accepts. After hitching a ride with a vaguely scary older man (Anson Mount), the teens arrive at their destination. Partying ensues, and Mandy's close pal, Emmet (Michael Welch), keeps a watchful eye on the young males making a play for Mandy. Then two of the students are murdered.

Critics Consensus

Mandy Lane has enough wit and craft to spark the horror fan's interest, but is not sufficiently original for mainstream audiences.

Too dumb for the arthouse, but too smart for the mall multiplex, the movie satisfies, paradoxically, precisely because it doesn't deliver on expectations.

Levine has fun with the genre, but he's found more interesting movies to make since. "Mandy" isn't quite dandy, but it's a cut above average.

"Mandy" is a sturdy little slasher film, nothing more.

Along with its Texas Chainsaw Massacre inspired visuals and surprisingly extreme violence, it’s actually smart.

As far as original slasher films go, it is largely frustrating – but there are potential rewards if you are patient.

Decent slasher movie with a couple of good twists. Unlike most ppl, I like Amber Heard, and she was pretty good. This isn’t a classic, no doubt. But if you like slasher movies with an 80s vibe, it’s worth watching.

Solid teen slasher with low-budget 80s throwback vibes. Decently acted. Fun twist.

Fantastic movie. Oddly cultish for me. Love the direction and acting, and colour grading. it’s something unique to me, it stands out

I liked the way that the light sources featured a lot in the movie. The shakiness was just right except on some slower scenes when it was a little distracting and redundant. The washed out, high-contrast style was very pleasing on the eye. Overall I like the visual style. The film had nice sound design, especially at the start. It became a little forgettable quickly though. This story started so well with some fantastic characterisation but slowly became a rather drab teen slasher. I thought that the ending didn’t make any sense and was a bit of a disappointment. A good style and very good start but sadly not that scary and not that noticeable.

I must have different tastes to many, as I really enjoyed this film. Yes, it's your typical teen slasher movie, but there are enough twists and turns to keep it interesting even if the acting is a little hammy. The clever and violent ending adds to the overall effect.
