What to Know

Critics Consensus

By the power of Grayskull and with a little help from its self-deprecating script and spirited cast, Masters of the Universe is a delightful adventure that finds the humanity in He-Man.

A better than it should be reboot of a 1980s relic that still falls far short of deserving a hero’s welcome, though He-Man Nicholas Galitzine and scary Skeletor Jared Leto add just the right tone of mocking irreverence. Go to Full Review

A two-hour-plus comedy-and-effects bonanza whose fantasy images are more notable for their quantity than quality, like a digital Golden Corral. Go to Full Review

…fails to impress because it’s not exactly a hot take on the material; the film-makers seem mortified to be telling the child-friendly story of He-Man and She-Ra, and writing that awkwardness into the narrative doesn’t defuse the issue… Go to Full Review

Masters of the Universe's cringeworthy dialogue, inconsistent comedy, and a refusal to fully embrace its mythology leave the movie tonally confused, undone by its kitchen-sink approach to the He-Man story. Go to Full Review

tamikawallace U 24m it was okay, but some parts of it was little childish, could have been better but just okay See more fred 26m The movie was awesome. But what i can say is stay till the lights come on. See more Shane 32m i loved every minute of the movie. It brought me back to my childhood. See more Nelson 33m Felt like the original 80s cartoon came to life. A lot of fun. Great summer movie. See more Travis 36m Lifelong fan of this series. I had ALL the toys up until a few years ago. I wanted to love this movie so much, especially after all the early positive buzz. A friend of mine saw it 2 weeks before its release and echoed most everything I had heard from the early reviews. I just...ugh. I just can't give it more than 3 stars and honestly, the 3rd is out of love and nostalgia. The movie has it's good parts. But it is too long for what it is. It was so up and down, so uneven. The script is not great. The movie is almost entirely CGI and they can't afford to put Orko in there more than a funny moral of the story piece, (as good as it was?) He is one of the key and main characters from the cartoon. Loose the robot and insert him instead. I don't want to rail on about my disappointments. Its ok, just not what I had hoped for. Perhaps a decent throw away summer popcorn movie? I can't say I liked it enough to even watch it again when it comes to Prime, but I probably will. There were many good points about the movie, just not enough to make me leave the theatre wanting more or proclaiming without hesitation, "Man, that was really good!" Don't listen to any of the reviews. Just go see for yourself. This is just my opinon. See more martaluz822 B 41m I enjoyed the movie stay for post credits See more Read all reviews
