Mr. Van Damme's Gibson is so opaque that he makes Mel Gibson's Mad Max seem weepy by comparison.

Few genres amuse me more than post-apocalyptic fantasies about supermen fighting for survival. Cyborg is one of the funniest examples of this category, which crosses Escape from New York with The Road Warrior but cheats on the budget.

It's just another martial arts film, all dressed up with no place to go.

It never distinguishes itself as anything but another Mad Max wannabe, although its minor success did lead to two straight-to-video sequels (the first with an 18-year-old Angelina Jolie, the second with OJ Simpson's freeloading houseguest Kato Kaelin).

I loved all the fake gore. Plenty of decapitated heads on a pole and bodies swinging off chains. Kill or be killed.

Ironically enough, the most believable cyborg is Van Damme ... in his role as a human.

An absolute slog, the story drags heavily, making the runtime feel twice as long as it actually is.

CT5 JCVD Movie. JCVD kicking himself off the cross is a Golden Dumpster (Hall of Fame 2028). Why couldn't Jesus kick himself off the cross? Jesus Christ Van Damme. The movie itself is somewhere between Waterworld and Mad Max. Ass On Damien Priest is a weak antagonist, and the love story is weird... But I will always Phile a JCVD movie.

I'm giving this 5 stars because it's criminally underrated and deserves any boost it can get. No, it's not 5 star material, the plot is silly and character development doesn't exist 😊, but the over the top fights and atmosphere are spot on. The action is placed in a post-apocalyptic world and it really gives you that feeling. Nobody watched it for its story at the time, but for the entertaining fights. You should do the same 😊
