Inspired by the iconic Mattel toys, "Matchbox The Movie" is an action-packed, globetrotting adventure about a group of friends since childhood who have their lives upended when undercover CIA agent Sean (John Cena), their long-absent former leader, returns to their small town and unwittingly gets them embroiled in a frantic international pursuit to save the world.

A risible mess of in-your-face product placement and overly familiar plotting, this can’t be saved even by a talented cast of comedians. You’d be better off playing with toy cars.

Matchbox: The Movie aims for nothing — it can’t really fail because there are no expectations.

The film aims to bring to life the imagination a child brings to his toys, and it delivers with a welcome spirit and even a little sweetness.

The action is exciting, of course, as are the international locations, but the film runs long and is so Hollywood familiar/formulaic that it's entirely predictable.

The characters on two legs aren’t as compelling as those on four wheels. It overflows with nostalgic affection for the titular toys, yet the ridiculous story never gets out of first gear.

Bottom line: Matchbox: The Movie might’ve been tolerably brainless escapism without all the shameless brand promotion.

I thought the movie was enjoyable overall. But, I get irritated when producers and moviemakers feel it necessary to include perverted themes such as a man who is so-called married to a man and that they have children. This is perverted thinking and for me it affects the attitude of the movie. Who are they trying to impress? Other perverts? Why are they willing to offend the sensibilities of many people to push this idiocy? Two men cannot beget children. Two men cannot be married. It’s offensive. John Cena, Jessica Biel, Arturo, Mattel, and the others who push this stuff are less interesting to me now.

These are movies where the same recipe is used over and over again. You definitely feel like you've already seen the same movie six other times. There's action, romance, and funny lines. However, it's clear that Cena only appears in these movies, playing the same role every time.

A solid movie, but 30 min too long. if you don't have specific movie in mind and you'd like to watch something, this is the perfect movie. it could be shorter, acting is solid, story is ok, but predictable.
