What to Know

Critics Consensus

Rosalind Eleazar is resoundingly ready for her closeup in Misty Green, a satire of stardom that's as fleeting as Hollywood fame but elevated by its marvelous central performance.

Misty Green is a small yet principled corrective to the larger problem it diagnoses: it’s a terrific vehicle for a Black actress who knows how few terrific or even good vehicles there are for Black actresses. Go to Full Review

Rock cannot write female characters with any depth. His actresses are left to their own devices to breathe life into their underwritten parts. Go to Full Review

“Misty Green” is an almost noirish take on Hollywood and the chase for fame. The result is one of Rock’s best projects, boosted by the ferocious abilities of Rosalind Eleazar as Misty,. She turns a star-seeking character into a star-making part. Go to Full Review

Writer/director Chris Rock's Misty Green ... doesn't quite know what to do. Go to Full Review

Overall, Misty may not be the movie that delivers the definitive work on Hollywood's transactional ways. But it makes room for pungent moments about after-hours Hollywood, and it captures the way the odor of failure can drift into self-abasement. Go to Full Review

Eleazar sashays in her first feature leading role, but the script is far from being rock-solid. The movie is at its best when it’s focused on Misty, but Rock is prone to overindulging, and he squanders most of the talented supporting cast. Go to Full Review

linda manners 6 days ago The movie was good and a twist st the end. singing was very good. See more Christina A @Senioraudience1234 7 hrs ago The actors and actresses were very good much better than the script. It is buried in stereo typical lives no one wants or thinks is entertaining. To replay the same form of prejudice over and over again is boring to an audience. It is beyond racial it is the same either just blood gore violence with no meaning, same racial issues writers need to think out of the box and find original for entertainment . See more Caleb J @abrahammovie 8 hrs ago Overall, I really enjoyed Misty Green. Although the film has its flaws, I was impressed by its cinematic style, compelling characters, and thematic complexity. Chris Rock demonstrates a genuine talent for filmmaking, crafting a story that is both entertaining and more nuanced than it initially appears. I think the criticism surrounding Rock’s work sometimes fails to engage with it in good faith, too readily reducing his artistic choices to misogyny rather than considering the complexities and contradictions of his perspective. I find his willingness to explore ideas that resist easy categorization genuinely interesting. I particularly enjoyed the seven day ticking clock structure, which gives the film the tension of a bottleneck thriller while allowing its social commentary to unfold. As Misty’s story develops, the film reveals layers that deserve closer examination. Not every creative choice works, but its ambition, nuance, and cinematic sensibility make it compelling. See more David L @davidonfilm 20 hrs ago "Misty Green" is a funny and raw character study that explores the brutal, transactional realities of the entertainment industry. Chris Rock returns to filmmaking showing Hollywood through the lens of a struggling actress with a fearless performance by Rosalind Eleazar. See more Mark E @Egmar 20 hrs ago Wow, it's worth it to see Rosalind Eleazar's performance. The phot montage at the opening credits captures LA today, good and bad, better than I could ever explain....at least the LA I live in. I thought some of Chris Rock's dialog seemed like one of his stand up routines, but they were incorporated in a way that felt right. He definitely tried to do too much, the brother's arch was clumsy and too...obviously, I need to send a message. There should be a Oscar nom for Rosalind.
