Baseball means almost nothing to me, and the story never found another emotional entry point strong enough to make its characters or conflicts matter personally. Still, I was never bored. The performances and dialogue create enough rhythm and tension to keep even unfamiliar decisions engaging. That contradiction defines the experience: it held my attention without ever earning my involvement. I do not think it is a bad film. I simply remained outside something many others clearly find meaningful. I think since this movie has come out, I don’t think I’ve missed an opportunity to rewatch it yet again for the twentieth time. Love, love, love this movie.
