Critics Consensus

With Hitchcockian flair, inventive gore, and electric performances, Over Your Dead Body blends tense thrills and playful twists into a satisfying, if occasionally conventional, ride.

The forecast calls for grim. Also, very funny. Rather bloody, too, thanks to director Jorma Taccone’s extreme take on the gore-as-entertainment genre, although the entire project is elevated by the cast and the writing.

A stellar cast, a few laughs and some stylish filmmaking can’t quite make up for Over Your Dead Body’s lack of dimension and off-putting tone.

Steered by ex-sketch comics, including Jorma Taccone of The Lonely Island/Saturday Night Live and comedy duo BriTANicK, it’s a little too unrefined, with some dead-on-arrival scenes that throw you out of the fun.

If nothing else, "So… how would you kill me?" makes for spicier post-viewing conversation than usual.

Over Your Dead Body doesn't quite reach the comedic precision of Taccone's best work or the wicked humor of Wirkola's film, but it offers enough laughs, blood, and severed limbs to have a good time. [Full review in Spanish]

Took a while to get into, none of the characters were the kind you'd root for.
