Prima ballerina Dominika Egorova faces a bleak and uncertain future after she suffers an injury that ends her career. She soon turns to Sparrow School, a secret intelligence service that trains exceptional young people to use their minds and bodies as weapons. Egorova emerges as the most dangerous Sparrow after completing the sadistic training process. Once in Bulgaria we used to laugh at Bulgarian actors trying to play western spies. Now we see the reverse - an English actor playing a Russian. Jeremy Irons had nothing Russian about him - neither the hysteria, nor the blind dedication to a cause, nor the benign cruelty. Did that casting mean that Russian spies are just like any spy in Europe? Well, they are not, and they do not try to be. Exceptionality is sought and projected. But the film was made before the invasion in Ukraine, which reinstated this status.

I liked this movie Jennifer Lawrence does a good job and the casting was pretty good also but I think what prevented this movie from being great was the school scene (and less violence) which was kind of pointless and could have either been edited out or redone and made shorter - it hurt the movie - kind of like Apocalypse Now - Redux, the added scenes (those that were edited out from the theatrical release such as the French plantation and Playboy shit hole) hurt the extended (Redux) version - but the theatrical release without these scenes is a classic.

Jennifer Lawrence's accent was brutal! Her acting was also bad. The whole woman power beating up men twice their size was completely delusional. Her getting revenge on her uncle was a cool twist but it can't save this movie from all the other really bad script choices.

Synopsis
