American journalist John Reed (Warren Beatty) journeys to Russia to document the Bolshevik Revolution and returns a revolutionary. His fervor for left-wing politics leads him to Louise Bryant (Diane Keaton), then married, who will become a feminist icon and activist. Politics at home become more complicated as the rift grows between reality and Reed's ideals. Bryant takes up with a cynical playwright (Jack Nicholson), and Reed returns to Russia, where his health declines.

I would never recommend this to somebody based on the romance that is supposedly at its center. I’d rave about Nicholson, the extraordinary color palette, and some of the thorny ideas that it tangles with.

Filme fraco, o roteiro é fraco, as cenas são fracas, a história é fraca, o elenco é fraco, e ninguém ajuda a melhorar o filme, os personagens são fracos, e o filme deveria ter cenas bem melhores e relevantes, para fazer o filme ser bom

Forget the politic that can get you lost, the real reason this is a masterpiece of depth is the love story between John Reed and Louise Bryant. warren Beatty and Diane Keaton give outstanding, deep performances and the rest of the cast is brilliant. This is one of my favorite love stories in film history. I was swept away and cried a lot. When Diane Keaton as Louise says to John "Don't let go' I lost it. Diane let go, we will miss you!

This is the first I’ve watched this film beginning to end. It’s beautifully made, the acting seems superior but you can’t follow the story when they mumble through script. I know it’s Beatty’s style - always has been but he sets the tone and Keaton falls into the trap as well. Don’t expect reading lips to help because Beatty spends his time looking at the ground. It’s his character - the tortured intellect. Frustrating to watch.
