Critics Consensus

Elevating the Dashwood sisters' relationship to the forefront of Jane Austen's classic tale of courtship, Georgia Oakley's Sense and Sensibility may not best previous adaptations but achieves a wistful identity of its own.

Where Elinor and Marianne’s ultimate understanding of one another is hard-earned in the novel, it all comes so easily here in a way that undercuts the stakes of this sister-focused story. Go to Full Review

As the heart of the story, Edgar-Jones and Creed-Miles have a beautiful, sisterly rapport, turning what can be stock character traits — Elinor’s “sense,” or prudence, and Marianne’s “sensibility,” or emotionality — into three-dimensionality. Go to Full Review

This Sense and Sensibility is for sad girls in high windows, but it doesn’t slip under the skin and grip the heart. It’s not up there with the most resonant, most tugging of the author’s adaptations, but it’s still a success – Reid has done a fine job. Go to Full Review

Faith 6 hrs ago In awe over this movie. Anyone who loves Jane Austen and regency era must see! See more Caitlin 8 hrs ago Very good 👍 but wanted more interaction with Brandon and Marianne. Also I hated her hairstyle throughout the film. It looked unkempt and straggly. That bugged the crap out of me. See more Susan 10 hrs ago Everything, from casting to costumes and set design was just bad. The character relationships lacked any emotion. The dance scenes were downright laughable. See more sloane b 10 hrs ago not even trying to be funny this might be even better than the ang lee adaptation im not kidding. See more Andro 11 hrs ago 1995 cast is better though :) See more Claudia 11 hrs ago A gentle and humanistic portrayal of Sense and Sensibility. No standout actors, but great ensemble of actors defining their roles. See more Read all reviews
