Critics Consensus

Hampered by toothless PG-13 action sequences, incoherent direction, and a hackneyed plot, Taken 3 serves as a clear signal that it's well past time to retire this franchise.

Forest Whitaker turns in one of his sleepiest performances; no one else seems to be trying very hard either, yet director Olivier Megaton delivers some good chases, fist fights, and shots of Neeson looking glum. Go to Full Review Wesley Morris Grantland Jan 16, 2015
A movie that thinks the way to earn our knuckle-biting is to be as dull as hell for 35 minutes, then send a giant shipping container hurtling along the interstate. But you yawn through that, too. Go to Full Review Philippa Hawker The Age (Australia) Jan 16, 2015

There's something sluggishly formulaic about the rollout of smackdowns, chase scenes and general mayhem involving wrecked cars. And a plot point involving warm bagels is downright ludicrous. Go to Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Aug 25, 2022

The good news is “Taken 3” is better than the last film, but not by a wide margin. Go to Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Jul 13, 2022

The movie spends more time on silly and predictable plot twists than relishing the minor joy of watching this actor kick butt. Go to Full Review Richard Crouse Richard Crouse Feb 2, 2021

We don't go to the Taken movies to see great art, we go to have a good time at the movies. Unfortunately, this time around, that pleasure has been "taken" from us. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Robbie Rob May 18, 2024 Liam Neeson rocks. Another typical Taken movie......with lots of action, good effects, and revenge killing. See more Michelle'sMovieMoment! Nov 11, 2022 Liam Neeson ALWAYS delivers!!! See more B P @Bradster69 Sep 20, 2026 Not Bad, but Not My Favorite See more Jorge A @RT50429328 Apr 10, 2026 Not nearly as bad as critics make it out to be. The editing could have use more work and story isn't very original seeing how rather similar it was to the fugitive. Still, I enjoyed it mainly because we see more interaction with Bryan's Friends and his daughter. Action still cool despite some editing problems, acting still great from everyone, and the story while unoriginal, was still enjoyable enough to kept me watching. See more Ray C @RT17651982 Feb 2, 2026 As a die-hard Liam Neeson fan and someone who generally enjoys these kinds of movies, Taken 3 is definitely watchable. That said, it’s not a very good movie. At its best, it’s a mediocre ripoff of The Fugitive. Not all of the action scenes are as bad as people say, but some of them absolutely are. The editing in a few of the chase scenes is just terrible. The worst part of the movie, though, is the writing. It’s just awful. The number of plot holes and inconsistencies makes it borderline unbelievable. If you’re not an action movie fan or a Liam Neeson fan, you’re better off staying away. See more gerald d @RT46512237 Jan 20, 2026 If Taken 1 is a poor man's James bond then Taken 3 is a poor man's The Fugitive. Implausible plot. Non-stop action film. See more Read all reviews
