Based on true events, “Tenzing” chronicles the little-known story of Tenzing Norgay, a gifted Himalayan climber who, alongside New Zealand mountaineer Edmund Hillary, was the first to summit Mount Everest. Encouraged by his wife Dawa, Tenzing finds an ally in expedition secretary Jill Henderson. Together, they persuade Colonel John Hunt that Tenzing belongs on the British climbing team, rather than merely serving it. Where Western climbers see “Everest” as something to be conquered, Tenzing reveres “Chomolungma” as the sacred mother goddess. What follows is an ascent defined as much by the tensions between backgrounds, classes and competing ambitions as by the perils of the mountain itself. But high above the world, empire, rank and aspiration fall away, leaving two outsiders bound by mutual respect and trust — and for Tenzing, the fulfillment of both a lifelong dream and a spiritual calling.

Tenzing Norgay’s place in history got cast in the publicity and political shadows of Hilary and expedition leader Colonel John Hunt, Tenzing corrects that and champions how it was a true team effort with Tenzing deserving of the same headline treatment. Go to Full Review

The acting, the story, the absolutely beautiful scenery!! Highly recommend!! See more Matt B @RT64102791 2 hrs ago A fantastic portrayal of one of mankind’s greatest achievements. Portrayed with the restraint and humility the characters deserved. Too often are these types of stories overproduced, over scripted and over dramatized. Tenzing however manages to fit so much in with so very little of anything but pure cinematic beauty. A must watch and a deserving contender during awards season. See more Read all reviews
