What to Know

Critics Consensus

The Next Generation has the fortune of starring early-career Matthew McConaughey and Renée Zellweger, but it services neither headliner well in a convoluted and cheap-looking slasher that doesn't live up to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre legacy.

Largely terrible, with the kernel of something interesting in the film's final scenes. Go to Full Review

Though Henkel's script broadly apes memorable moments from the first film, the echoes only serve to underscore how short he's coming up here. Go to Full Review

Zellweger makes Jenny the most formidable scream queen since Jamie Lee Curtis went legit. Go to Full Review

worst of all has to be McConaughey, who hoots and howls his way through the mid-film torture of Zellweger with such brio that it becomes something like misogynistic performance art. Go to Full Review

While not technically a good movie, the (un?)intentional comedy and parodying of the franchise make this fourth entry an admittedly entertaining (and hilarious) watch. Go to Full Review

It is a uniquely terrible film - a uniquely terrible film that I'd kill to see with a rowdy crowd at a midnight screening. Go to Full Review

Alyssa L. @kr_24 10h I cannot express my hatred for this movie. Do not waste your time or your money. This movie is terrible, a total s word show. Much as number 3 it has no story line, the characters are so annoying even leather face he just screams like a baby the whole time. Like why have they turned the whole concept into a social experiment in the movie with that stupid black coat guy? You know how the sawyers are all about family in ALL of the movies… I watched this one last. THIS ONE HAS NO CONCEPT OF FAMILY AT ALL THEY ALL HATE EACH OTHER. Long story short please do not bother, you don’t need to watch it to understand anything, half of them aren’t even related anyway. See more Stanny R @StannyMC Feb 6 Perhaps the weakest entry in the Texas Chainsaw franchise, some fun moments and memorably odd line deliveries, but overall it’s not good. See more Andrew S @Malasita Oct 27 The worst film of the franchise. The characters are dumb. The acting is horrible. The plot is ridiculous. The films of this franchise just get worse with each installment. Matthew McConaughey will bring some of this style of acting back in Killer Joe. See more Melissa L @Agent99 Oct 23 This was one of the WORST horror movies I've ever watched! I cannot believe this got made and had well-established stars in it. Although, since it was made in 1994, I'm not sure just how "well-established they were. Anyway, you've been warned! See more stephen b Oct 18 Ironic that the only one of these movies with a recognizable cast is so horrendous and non-sensical. See more Shelby O Oct 12 what was even happening in this movie Some interesting parts but I just couldn't take it seriously How do these movies keep making Leatherface the least interesting character See more Read all reviews
