See more Marcela Apr 25 Amazing photography WO See more Wayne M @Wayne93 1d The Blue Trail is a thoughtful and challenging film. It has an outer and inner beauty. It moves slowly, but with plenty of substance. Set in Brazil in the future we find a country where the aged population are moved to 'colonies' when they reach a certain age. It apparently gives them a comfortable life, but we don't really know for sure. We find Teresa has now been designated to join them as she is now 77. She works in a factory, but enjoys both her life and her work. She doesn't want to go and she also has a dream of flying in a plane for the first time in her life. So she sets out on a journey of discovery. Set on the Amazon in the north west of Brazil, it becomes a magical journey as she meets various interesting characters along the way. This superb film is short, perhaps a little short, and slowly engulfs you. Denise Weinberg is wonderful as Teresa and the film fairly glistens. See more Howie B @Howie10 6d A long time ago (1973) I remember being very disturbed by a film based on removing the elderly from society, that movie ‘Soylent Green’ immediately popped into my head as this much more believable Brazilian movie explored the notion that society benefits from moving the old folks on. Great script, acting performances and cinematography. No wonder it won the awards it has. As my age is almost identical to this film’s subject I was rooting for her all the way! The film begins with a powerful and thought provoking premise, a system that measures human worth by productivity. Its emotional core is carried by a sincere and layered central performance. However, the narrative becomes fragmented in the second half, losing some of its dramatic focus. A poetic and heartfelt journey that stumbles in structure but lingers in meaning. See more danelectro T @danelectro Apr 25 This may be the year of great films featuring elderly women, "Calle Malaga" one of the year's best as an older woman resisting her daughter's attempts to sell her home and eradicate her sense of place and connection, this one about a similarly aged lady resisting the dystopian plan to place the elderly in some camp against their will. This is a very visual film set along a Brazilian river, acted brilliantly by the main actor, but also featuring the ongoing characters of life's adventure, taking risks, and trusting where life's coursing river will take you if you let yourself ride its boat. Some may find the film slow, but this is a great work of art which you must settle in and similarly trust where it will take you to be caught in its spell. See more Read all reviews
